I used to be a huge fan of The O.C. I have no idea whether this is the actual name for these cookies. But in the Valentine’s Day episode of (I think) the first season (maybe the second), Kirsten calls them “Forgotten Kisses.” Thus, they will forever be known in my house (and on THD) as “Forgotten Kisses.”
Because the month is February is all about Valentine’s, chocolate, and kisses; what better way to celebrate than to make some of these delicious, kiss-themed, gluten free peanut butter cookies???
Valentine’s Shmalentine’s
While I realize it’s hokey to admit it, I actually really like Valentine’s Day. Of course, as a single it had the potential to be a little bit sad, but it was also a day my mom always celebrates with a cute little trinket or gift to mark the occasion of a day dedicated entirely to love.
And honestly, I think that’s probably why I like Valentine’s. It hasn’t really been all about romantic love for me. It’s a day dedicated to pink and red (my favorite color), chocolate (one of my favorite things), and treating others with love (something I practice AND preach to my clients). I think there is need for much more love in the world, and if on February 14 the world gets a little bit nicer, then why not???
I always heard that for a single, Valentine’s gets all awesome when you’re in a relationship because that’s what it’s about. Well, this is my second Valentine’s not being single, and I totally love my life and I still love Valentine’s–but only for the reasons I mentioned above. It’s about all kinds of love. It didn’t suddenly get good just because I have a boyfriend. BB (Blossom’s BFF), like most modern men, really isn’t all about Valentine’s. I think it maybe feels forced? But last year we had a great, low-key Valentine’s eating dollar tacos with great people, and this year is going to be similar.
Naturally Gluten Free
As a gluten free person, it’s difficult to find recipes for sweets that are naturally gluten free rather than simply replacing the flour with a gluten free, all-purpose option. With these, I don’t have to do that because there isn’t any flour in them! The cookies are ridiculously easy as there are only three ingredients (plus chocolate kisses), and if I want to go super sappy, I switch out the kisses for chocolate hearts for an extra-Valentine-y appearance.
I usually make a double batch as this recipe doesn’t make may cookies. But it’s so easy that you can whip them up within just a few minutes. And hey, if you’re weird like that, you don’t even have to put the chocolate in them! (But seriously, they actually are still great by themselves. Lol.)
Smile! It’s supposed to be fun!
So welcome to my version of a Valentine’s Day I’ve loved as a single and beyond. Good times with good people. That’s all that matters to me. We’re planning to play cards with another couple and their kids at their house. Low key and wonderful–sweatpants required. So while I still hope there will be some chocolate (I have a feeling these cookies will be making an appearance!), I’m making Valentine’s my own and loving it for all the wonderful reasons it exists. Not just because BB is in my life.
Happy Valentine’s Day! <3
