We’ve talked about my tendency toward cocktailing by season. So when Sweet Tea Vodka became “a thing,” my deep-summer drink became Sweet Tea Vodka and Lemonade. But as time passed and thriving became my #1 goal, I became interested in the ingredients present in the food I consume. I wondered just what was in the Sweet Tea Vodkas I was buying at the store. Combine that with a serious wheat allergy, and I felt it was time to learn to make this awesome Summer Spirit myself. Turns out, I’m so sorry I didn’t learn earlier. This is seriously. So. Easy. Maybe the next thing I learn to do is make the lemonade that mixes with it! 😉
Enjoy your Summer and this perfect sun-shiney drink next to a pool or at the lake! I probably shouldn’t advertise it, but I’ve also been known to take a flask of this to a game to share in a large cup of traditional ballgame lemonade. Hopefully games will restart soon. This year I’ll feel better about my flask, knowing I’m consuming only ingredients I know! Happy drinking!
- ½ Bottle of Gluten Free Vodka (I prefer Tahoe Blue)
- 6 Bags of Twining's Decaf English Breakfast Tea
- Sugar to Taste (I use about 1½ Tablespoons to one 750 ml Bottle of Tahoe Blue)
- Put the Vodka in a mason jar and steep all six tea bags in the vodka for 2-3 hours until it's a dark amber color. (It's a concentrate so you want it strong, and unlike green tea, the black tea won't get bitter.)
- Add Sugar to the jar with the vodka 1 Tablespoon at a time until it's your desired sweetness and shake it to combine and dissolve. ***I used to use simple syrup so it was already dissolved, but this way you're keeping the alcohol content of the vodka while managing the amount of Sugar you use. .
- To make the drink, add 1½ shots of the sweet tea vodka to a glass with ice. Pour in Simply Lemonade to your desired mixture. Squeeze a wedge of Lemon into the drink and mix well. Enjoy!
