I don’t like water. There, I said it. I hate water. I always have. As a matter of fact, my parents used to say I was “allergic” to water, simply because of my aversion to it. But eventually I learned of flavored seltzer water and my aversion was almost cured. Now that I’ve been working to make the healthiest me, water really is a must-have in my every day diet, so seltzer water is a life-saver for me. Enter the Soda Stream and this DIY Flavored Seltzer!
I used to LIVE on those flavored seltzer waters in the blue bottle from Costco. But not too long ago, I saw a Cooking Light article about the “worst thing” about the “La Croix” movement and our country’s rampant consumption of these fizzy drinks. I’ve heard several people state that the erosion of tooth enamel is the #1 issue with our consumption of these seltzers. But this author had a different #1 issue: the BPAs we’re consuming. (See her article here.) In addition to that, I started becoming really ashamed with myself and the amount of garbage I was creating–even if it was recycled.
Obviously, I’m a proponent of natural living. I try to make as many of my meals as possible. And I even like the challenge of making the ingredients. Those I don’t make are generally consumed in high caliber restaurants with reputations for using local, organic ingredients.
But I’ve been completely guilty of consuming these prepackaged beverages–and at a rate that would likely be alarming to these experts. Without bubbles I won’t consume more than 4-8 ounces of water daily. Of course, I’m sure I get plenty of liquids with the produce I eat (especially in the summer time), but I still realize this is a dismal amount of water. I’ve taken to thinking these bubbly waters–enamel erosion or no–are better than none. (Though of course, some would argue. Ahem, BB…)
However, as a proponent for natural living, I wanted to find ways to satisfy my craving for bubbly flavored water without contributing so much to the environmental issues and without subjecting myself to all those BPAs. Enter the Soda Stream.
It took me a long time to swallow my pride (and sense of time-management) to purchase one of these beauties. That was dumb. I wish I’d bought one years ago. I would have saved myself a lot of chemicals and the world a LOT of plastic. But I don’t look back–I’m going forward to my healthier, more natural, and environmentally-friendly life. 🙂
Even in spite of all of this loveliness, I was still bummed I wouldn’t be able to have the flavored waters I love so much. I love the flavored seltzers, just like everyone else. But I have to admit, the words “natural flavors,” make me somewhat nervous. What exactly does the FDA deem “natural”? I don’t have that knowledge and that doesn’t make me feel good. So what did I do? I created another wonderfully tasty way to make sure I’m getting the essential oils necessary to help my body AND getting the flavored waters I love! DoTerra is something I understand, and I love the flavors, so this is a match made in heaven!
So join me in a movement of seltzer-lovers everywhere committed to helping both our own bodies and the environment at the same time! The Soda Stream is here to help us save plastic, and DoTerra is here to help make our lives healthier AND tasty.
***Some notes: when consuming DoTerra, pay attention to the dosage and consult an expert regarding which oils to safely consumed. In addition, drink these beverages out of glass to assure the oils are effectively consumed.
Below are the links to purchase the DoTerra oils, the glass cups and straws, and the Soda Stream. Enjoy your homemade seltzer. Happy Cooking!!!
