I love pretty much all holidays, mostly because there are always new foods and recipes to try and taste, in addition to being an excellent excuse for having parties. I usually have a Cinco De Mayo party every year, complete with enchiladas, Mexican rice and homemade margaritas.
I have a couple of crazy allergies, one of which makes drink mixers awfully difficult for me to partake in. Not only that, but drink mixers are generally full of ugly unpronounceable chemicals. Instead, I prefer to make mixers myself if I can, and margaritas are the best and easiest type, in my opinion.
There are several different types of margaritas that can be made: Classic, Traditional and Cadillac. I suppose the three types are more like three levels. Classic is regular tequila, lime juice, and simple syrup; Traditional is regular tequila, lime juice, and simple syrup made with agave instead of sugar; and Cadillac is premium tequila, lime juice and simple syrup made with agave instead of sugar. Below are the three recipes, just for you, depending on which type you’re feeling on any given Cinco de Mayo! Cheers to the start of almost-Summer! 🙂
Classic Margarita:
Juice of 1 Lime
1 1/2 oz. Tequila
1/2 – 1 oz. Simple Syrup
Salt Rimmed Glass full of Ice
Mix all ingredients in a martini shaker and pour over ice.
Margarita Tradicionale:
Juice of 1 Lime
1 1/2 oz. Tequila
1/2 – 1 oz. Agave Simple Syrup
Salt Rimmed Glass full of Ice
Mix all ingredients in a martini shaker and pour over ice.
Cadillac Margarita:
Juice of 1 Lime
2 oz. Top Shelf Tequila
1/2 – 1 oz. Agave Simple Syrup
1/2 oz. Grand Marnier
Floater of Orange Juice
Lime Salt Rimmed Glass full of Ice
Mix first three ingredients in a martini shaker and pour over ice. Float Grand Marnier and Orange Juice over the top of the drink.
